About Us

The Stewart-Moore family have a strong association with the development and improvement of the droughtmaster breed. John Stewart-Moore introduced Brahman x Shorthorn cattle to ‘Dunluce’, Hughenden, in the 1950s, after being impressed by the doing ability of the cross. He founded both the Telemon and Charraboon Stud, selling Charraboon in 1965 but retaining Telemon Droughtmasters; and succeeded in breeding a highly fertile line of cattle that naturally thrived in the harsh environment of North Western Queensland. John served several terms as president of the Droughtmaster Society, and was Patron of the society in the 1990s.

The Telemon Stud continued to breed commercially focussed genetics under the stewardship of John’s son Ninian Stewart-Moore, and his wife Ann. For six decades, cattle have been both carefully selected for fertility, temperament, structural soundness and traits that amplify adaptability; such as parasite resistance, good weight gain without needing supplementation, slick coats, a natural ability to cover distance, and heat tolerance, just to name a few.

Today the stud is operated by Ninian’s son Jack Stewart-Moore and his wife Kylie. Our focus is to breed practical, easy fleshing cattle that are suitable for large scale commercial operations. We employ a heavy culling attitude to remove any animal that doesn’t suit the commercial producer's needs. Since 2015, Telemon has started to employ the most up to date technologies such as DNA typing, EBV measurement, and Australian Cattle Vet BullCheck Standards as additional tools to improve the quality of the cattle we breed.
