Fertility
Fertility is a highly heritable genetic trait that has been continuously focussed on at Telemon for decades. Our females are entered into a database and their calving details meticulously recorded year in year out. To remain in both the stud and commercial herd, females are expected to produce a calf every 12 months and raise it successfully to weaning.
The genetics we produce must be practically suited to the commercial operation, meaning that no calving assistance is tolerated in any of our stud stock, without exception. We also select for bulls that have at least 70% normal sperm morphologically, and good scrotal size EBVs at 2yo, as these traits have positive correlation with progeny fertility.
