Our Operation
Commercial Cattle: The Big Picture
Telemon Droughtmasters is run as a key genetic selection tool to a larger commercial operation, Dunluce Grazing.
We are a family owned business with a strong interest in the Australian beef industry, committed to producing premium beef in a natural, regenerative ecosystem.
Currently we run a commercial herd of 10,000 cattle, season dependant, in North Queensland.
The Telemon Droughtmaster stud allows us to refine the article that we produce to a range of markets.
We sell to restockers, breeding enterprises, feedlots, live export and to abbatoirs.
The Stud Operation
The stud consists of 150 registered females who are joined for a 60 day period each year, timing their calving window to coincide with our wet season. The females are drafted into lines, and run as single sire herds, either with natural mating or artificial insemination.
Each year, we produce proven, registered, two year old bulls surplus to our requirements, that we offer for sale. We also select bull calves each year with outstanding genetics from the commercial enterprise to sell as herd bulls. These bulls are subject to the same selection criteria as our offered stud bulls, such as sire identification and horn/poll typing through DNA, BullCheck with morphology, and EBVs being measured.

We use strict selection criteria to breed our seedstock within Telemon, to ensure that we are producing the highest quality commercial article out the other end of the operation. Focussing on selecting the best of the best across physical type, temperament, fertility traits, growth rates and, in more recent times, using genetic technologies, we produce cattle that are sought after in large lines. Our cattle are suited to a range of markets, being pursued by lot feeders, live exporters, abattoirs and in the case of surplus females, restocking breeding operators.
Our stud has to deliver quality to any commercial enterprise, without exception; we rely on it. When purchasing Telemon genetics, you can depend on buying a consistent article that has been developed to be productive and profitable. Our inspiration comes not only from our commercial operation, but also from the many returning clients we have each year that value our genetics. Feedback plays a big part in our breeding plan, and we appreciate any comments from other cattlemen. We welcome visitors to our operation year round; our door is always open.
